What cyber liability errors & omissions coverages you REALLY need

Posted by Justin Reinmuth on Apr 19, 2017 4:35:00 PM

In representing more than 900 IT clients across the United States, I have personally experienced the fact that many IT business owners think their business insurance covers client data loss situations or network security failures. I have news for you — they don’t. And it’s especially important for managed service providers working with healthcare, legal, or CPA clients to understand this.

All business insurance policies contain a professional services exclusion. This is why a doctor preforming surgery must go out and obtain medical malpractice coverage or a CPA firm preparing tax returns for their clients must get accountants professional liability. More than 70 classes of business need professional liability, errors and omissions (E&O), or malpractice insurance to protect their organizations in the event that a client holds them responsible for a service they provided — or failed to provide — that didn’t have the expected results.

Quiz: Which data loss threat are your customers most likely to fall for?

Posted by Lauren Beliveau on Mar 23, 2017 12:54:20 PM

Downtime is costly, and it can put your SMBs’ businesses in jeopardy. With so many ways to lose data, we wanted to make it easier for you to explain threats to your customers, which is why we created the Data Loss Gremlins. Each Data Loss Gremlin has its own devious knack for causing chaos wherever it goes. Phishy sends out believable spear phishing emails to unsuspecting employees, Klepto finds open backdoors to your customers’ systems, and Dino preys on businesses who are still using legacy systems.

Safe Harbor agreement drives awareness of data sovereignty issues

Posted by Mike Vizard on Apr 14, 2016 11:41:58 AM

It's truly an ill wind that doesn't blow some good anywhere. Such is the case with the contentious Safe Harbor agreement that the European Union and the United States are trying to hammer out.

This week a pan-European data regulator group, known as Article 29, recommended that the latest attempt to create a Safe Harbor agreement for transferring data into the U.S. from Europe should not be approved because it doesn’t go far enough to protect the privacy of Europeans. The previous agreement has been invalidate by the European Court of Justice after it determined earlier this year that the existing Safe Harbor agreement did not adequately protect the privacy of European citizens.

As one service provider put it, "I would vote for four or five of them if I could as I've been attacked by many of these."

Survey finds IT execs still have same old privacy fears about cloud

Posted by Ron Miller on Jun 1, 2015 12:40:32 PM

That old Pink Floyd chestnut "Wish You Were Here" is sadly applicable to some of today's IT pros, who, according to a recent survey conducted by The Economist Intelligence Unit and sponsored by Hitach, still see the cloud as a major concern when it comes to privacy.

Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?

The same old fears
Wish you were here.

Common cyber security mistakes your SMB customers are making

Posted by Neal Bradbury on Apr 22, 2015 8:30:00 AM

Bad habits are hard to break, and that’s especially true when it comes to small businesses and cyber security. After all, it’s easy for SMBs to think “that will never happen to me,” and let things slide that end up creating real security concerns.

The truth is data breaches and cyber attacks are  very real possibilities for small businesses. According to the National Small Business Association, 44 percent of small businesses report being the victim of a cyber attack, and the number of data breaches reported each year continues to climb.

Posted by Anne Campbell on Mar 26, 2015 9:00:00 AM

With World Backup Day right around the corner, we’ve been spending a lot of time here at Intronis talking about the data loss gremlins and the major threats they represent to MSPs and their small business customers.

The problems the data loss gremlins can cause are serious. According to the National Archives & Records Administration in Washington, DC, 93 percent of SMBs that lose data access for 10 or more days are bankrupt in a year.

The end of the first calendar quarter is only a week away, but March 31 also marks another important day: World Backup Day. We take this “holiday” of sorts very seriously at Intronis, and we “celebrate” by educating managed service providers on how and why they need to back up their customers’ business critical data.
