As an MSP, you probably know roughly how much you pay your backup vendor each month. But do you know how much managing that backup solution is really costing you?

Ask Intronis: How to provide reports to my customers

Posted by Courtney Steinkrauss on May 11, 2015 9:23:00 AM

Q: A few of my small business customers are asking me about their monthly spend on data backup and are looking for some reporting to show them they are getting value from this expense and that everything is backed up and running. I’m used to checking in with my customers during site visits and reaching out when an issue comes up. How do I get started creating reports? What should I include? How can I make sure the reports are useful to my customers?

Posted by Courtney Steinkrauss on May 7, 2015 3:06:00 PM

Happy National Small Business Week! Earlier this week we told you about this event and offered up a few different ways to get involved and celebrate with your SMB customers. Now, while you have the attention of your small business prospects and customers, use the opportunity to educate them on why they need cloud backup.

Start off by reminding them that protecting their data is critical to the continued success of their business. Explain how including cloud backup in their managed services contract will help keep their data safe even if disaster strikes and help make sure they can celebrate National Small Business Week again next year.

Why MSPs need to start asking about recovery, not backup

Posted by Achmad Chadran on Mar 16, 2015 12:30:00 PM

As a managed service provider, you probably hear variations on this question every day: “What kind of backup do we need?” It’s a perfectly natural question for customers to ask, but more often than not the conversation will quickly turn away from backup to recovery.

For this reason, it seems to me we should flip the question and ask instead, “What kind of recovery do you need?”

Bare metal restore software should be on your list of bare essentials

Posted by Alan Earls on Jan 20, 2015 2:00:00 PM

At one time or another every organization is bound to need to recover a server. Maybe it’s a hardware malfunction or a corrupted drive. Or it could be an unexpected physical disaster like a flood or a tornado. It could even be a virus or software problem.

No matter the cause, unless you have unlimited time and patience you’ll want to be able to do a “bare metal” restore—in which you bring back the whole operating system and every other characteristic of a system along with its applications and production data. Although different operating systems might handle it in different ways, it is never a small task.

The alleged iCloud hack: Your data is safe with Intronis

Posted by Manny Veiga on Sep 2, 2014 11:44:00 AM

A massive reported breach of private celebrity images this weekend has called into question the security of Apple's iCloud service.

Apple says it is investigating claims that hackers were able to access the private iCloud online data storage service by exploiting a vulnerability in its software. According to the Wall Street Journal, a flaw in the Find My iPhone service may have enabled unlimited opportunities for hackers to guess users' iCloud passwords until they could find the right one.

This type of "brute force" attack is normally prevented by password lockout features, but Find My iPhone apparently did not have such a feature until Apple released a corrective patch yesterday.

How to prevent Intronis from being quarantined by Symantec antivirus

Posted by Paul Hanley on May 7, 2014 11:57:00 AM

UPDATE: We have been able to resolve the issue described in this post with the team at Symantec so that it will not continue in the future. This blog was published before the issue was solved, but we still advise partners to please follow the steps outlined below to ensure that the Intronis software is not blocked by any anti-virus programs.

Currently some Intronis partners are experiencing an issue where Symantec software flags Intronis as a virus and disables our backup software. We wanted to explain why the issue is occurring and offer two quick steps to fix it.

Last week, Symantec rolled out an update to their SONAR technology and this started picking up our software as a false positive.

SONAR is the heuristic component of Symantec Antivirus (SAV) and Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP). Heuristic definitions are theoretical signatures used to infer which programs are bad instead of using explicitly known definitions like in the old days.
