Tip Tuesday: How to achieve more success with less

shutterstock_388523254Albert Einstein once said, “Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.” When it comes to running a profitable IT service business, it’s often best to take that approach. Not only should you find ways to simplify your processes and procedures for your techs, but you should also look for a way to simplify who you work with.

When you work with too many vendors, you can’t benefit from all the extras they have to offer. This could include MDFs, training programs, marketing materials, and more. In fact, you might be surprised to find out how much they offer that you didn’t even know about. When you have too many vendors, you simply can’t keep track. In addition to all the extras that are available to you, consolidating the services you offer can help your technicians learn the ins and outs of a single product, instead of juggling multiple options.

Learning multiple systems and products can be challenging. One of our partners, Corey DeGrandchamp of Computing Technologies, recently made some important changes to his business, and on Smarter MSP he shared how proper documentation and systems helped his MSP grow. Here is an excerpt of the advice he had to share:

“Before we partnered with Barracuda MSP, our backups were all over the place. We had some users on Carbonite, Mozy, and local in-house stuff—it was all over the place. We unified our approach, and every customer—except one—is on the same system. Before, our backups were in a scary place. Our customers knew it, we knew it, and we knew we needed to do something about it. After we saw the Barracuda MSP product, we made it a top priority to switch customers over as soon as we knew we could.

We let everyone know that this is the one singular platform for backups that we support. We kept pricing the same, and we let them know all the benefits. One downfall of the transition was that we had to run two backups in tandem side-by-side until we were 100-percent sure we had good backups of everything. We found that our customers like when we come forward with new technologies and share the important information.”

Consolidating your vendors

To truly grow your IT service business, you need to find a solution that will grow with you. That means you putting processes and procedures in place that would work not only if you added 10 more customers to your managed service offering, but also if you were to add 100 new customers to your offering. Watch the video below to learn why you should consider consolidating your service offering with Barracuda MSP.
