Introducing replication to AWS for Barracuda Backup – Intronis MSP Edition

According to a recent Barracuda research report, 83 percent of the companies surveyed said they use public cloud for storage, and 62 percent use it for data recovery. As more organizations embrace the public cloud, the managed service providers they work with are looking for data protection and storage solutions that fit with a public cloud approach.

That’s why we’re excited to announce that IT service providers using Barracuda Backup – Intronis MSP Edition now have the ability to choose to replicate data securely and efficiently from an on-premises physical or virtual backup appliance to Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud storage.

To give you a closer look at the new option and how it can help MSPs, we spoke with Chris Crellin, senior director of product management for Intronis MSP Solutions by Barracuda.

Replication to AWS Q&A with Chris Crellin

What do MSPs need to know about the new launch?

Barracuda Backup – Intronis MSP Edition currently allows MSPs to securely and efficiently send data to the Barracuda Cloud or another physical or virtual backup appliance. This new release gives MSPs another option: replication to their own AWS Simple Storage Service (S3) bucket or a customer’s S3 bucket. Essentially, this gives MSPs a choice when they initially set up a new appliance whether they want to replicate to the Barracuda Cloud or to AWS.

How does the ability to replicate to AWS help MSPs?

This new replication option gives MSPs greater flexibility and choice so they can decide which deployment option works best for each customer or fits with their personal preferences. Many MSPs already have their own AWS buckets and would prefer to store customers’ data there so they can choose where data resides and have complete control over their customers’ backed-up data.

For MSPs that are already using AWS cloud storage, the new replication option helps them standardize on infrastructure and solutions they’re familiar with. And, setup is simple, so you don’t need to be an AWS expert to use it. MSPs with a basic understanding of AWS infrastructure will be able to install and configure replication and restore capabilities in minutes, and because Barracuda Backup – Intronis MSP Edition is a fully-integrated end-to-end solution, MSPs won’t need to deploy any compute resources in AWS to enable the replication process. Plus, no cloud-side tuning is required.

Even if MSPs have customers using different replication options, they’ll be able to manage all of the replication targets from the same simple Barracuda Cloud Control web interface, which makes your day-to-day easier as an MSP.

What type of customers is this replication option a good fit for?

Replication to AWS is a good fit for MSPs that have customers running a mix of on-premises physical and virtual environments and use AWS for cloud storage or want to adopt public cloud storage. It’s also a good option for customers that need to use the public cloud to meet certain compliance or regulatory requirements.

It’s also a good fit for customers that need rapid recovery. MSPs replicating to AWS will have the option to restore backed-up virtualized systems directly to their own AWS EC2 compute environment or a customers’ for rapid recovery.
