Buttered coffee and other discoveries: Talking to MSPs in Seattle

Find me on:

Ahh! Hot buttered coffee with my cloud BCDR!Add buttered coffee to my list of simple pleasures.

What is buttered coffee? On one hand, it’s exactly what it sounds like, a hot cup of premium espresso coffee with a pat of unsalted butter stirred in. But on the other hand, it’s something different, a twist on a familiar warm beverage.

That was one of the many discoveries my colleague Randy Thay and I made at the lunch event we hosted last Thursday at the Capitol Grille in Seattle.

A learning occasion for all

The turnout in Seattle made this one of our largest local lunch events to date. No surprise, given Seattle’s size and its culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. The solution providers who joined us that day engaged actively during our presentation, peppering us for details on our hybrid local/cloud business continuity solutions, our hypervisor-native imaging solutions, our fixed pricing model, and our Intronis ECHOshare secure file-sharing platform.

We learned a lot from the MSPs who joined us, too. One, a manager at a large voice and data networking specialist with offices across the Pacific Northwest, shared his observation that public school districts are eager to shift costs from capital items to operating expenses. Another service provider manager who works extensively with nonprofits said he also saw this trend among his clients, too. The group mentioned a few other business trends like these, in addition to the growing sophistication of the application environments that SMBs are embracing, as drivers of IT services demand.

The importance of PSAs and RMMs

During our discussions, our guests confirmed the value that Professional Service Automation (PSA) and Remote Monitoring & Management (RMM) platforms provide to managed service providers for streamlining operations and improving the experience for their customers.

One of our guests, a current Intronis partner, talked at length about how much efficiency his business gained through our API integration with industry-leading PSAs and RMMs. This efficiency, he explained, gave his team more time to devote to the specialized needs of customers in the healthcare market, a segment that his company plans to target more actively. Scalability was a critical concern for all of our guests last Thursday, and nearly all of our guests see PSA and RMM technologies as key enablers.

Intronis today: News for some, review for others

The growing need for business continuity solutions was another topic of heated discussion. A couple of our guests expressed their frustration with the proprietary backup appliances that some cloud backup vendors require as part of these solutions, and welcomed the flexibility to use off-the-shelf storage and server products with our hybrid business continuity solutions.

We also picked up on healthy interest in our Data Protection as a Service (DPaaS) offering , which was developed as yet another way to relieve solution provider staffs of day-to-day backup and recovery operations. We look forward to exploring the DPaaS opportunity more deeply with our partners.

Even those who were relatively familiar with Intronis got the chance to learn more about the enhancements we’ve added to the Intronis ECHOplatform over the past year. Several guests remarked on how different Intronis is today compared to even a year ago. Our local lunch events were conceived partly to update the solution provider community on these changes and partly to give our partners and prospects a forum for sharing their experiences with us.

All in all, our Seattle lunch event was warm and stimulating. Yes, much like the buttered coffee. I look forward to my next lunch event, the education and discovery that awaits, and the prospects of savoring yet another trending foodie phenom.
