5 Ways MSPs can make the most of National Small Business Week

Find me on:

National_Small_Business_WeekAs an MSP, you know that small businesses can be a big opportunity, but this week, there’s even more reason to celebrate SMBs. The U.S. Small Business Administration has declared May 4 to 8 to be National Small Business Week, and it’s a great opportunity for IT service providers to both learn from fellow business owners and engage with current and prospective customers.

Here are a few ways you can make the most of the week:

1. Attend a National Small Business Week event

The Small Business Administration with be hosting events in Miami, Los Angeles, San Antonio, New York City, and Washington D.C. throughout the week. Highlights include presentations from Office Depot CEO Roland Smith and SBA Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet and panel discussions on millennial entrepreneurs and social media. If you don’t live close enough to attend in person, you can watch any of the presentation live online at www.sba.gov.

2. Get involved in an event near you

Local and regional small business associations and chambers of commerce also have big plans for the week. For example, Small Business Week of Eastern Missouri has roughly 20 events scheduled throughout the St. Louis area, and in Massachusetts, the Greater Lowell Chamber of Commerce is celebrating by asking people to take selfies at local small businesses and post them on Twitter or Instagram. Find out what events are happening in your area and make an effort to attend or get involved. It can be a great opportunity to network and meet potential customers.

3. Register for a webinar

The Small Business Administration will be hosting a number of webinars throughout the week as well, such as “The Secrets to Crafting a Digital Footprint” and “Payments as a Trigger for Small Business Growth.” Check out the lineup and see if there are any that will be helpful to your business or that could teach you about pain points your customers are dealing with.

4. Send an email blast

National Small Business Week is also a good excuse to reach out to your customers. Try sending an email to celebrate the week with customers and to thank them for their business. The email could also point them to helpful NSBW resources or events that they might want to take advantage of. Check out our recent blog post on email marketing best practices for tips on how to craft an email like this.

5. Promote a special offer

You might also want to consider running a special promotion tied to the celebration. For example, you could offer a discount to new customers who sign a contract with you during National Small Business Week, or you could offer a gift card to another local business as a thank you for taking a meeting this week. A special offer like this can be a good way to start a conversation or close new business.

Don’t feel like you need to try to do all five of these things to celebrate National Small Business Week, but try to do some of them. The lessons you learn and new connections you earn will make it worth the time and effort.
